Workshops with Francisco BenitezFrancisco Benitez teaches workshops and does demos on a regular basis, for the ancient figurative encaustic technique. His focus is to transmit knowledge of the ancient Greeks by showing how to use the various ancient and modern tools, and imbuing his students with a sense of working with the four-color flesh palette. He also teaches the history of encaustic and ancient painting, and shows how to prepare panels, make an initial sketch, and build up the painting in layers.
Benitez’s encaustic work is based upon the Ancient Greek tradition of encaustic painting and the beautiful Fayum portraits which were the last expression of that lofty tradition. He incorporates the tetrachromy, or four color palette, in his working practice, as well as ancient tools, glazing and fusing techniques, to render life-like images.
In addition, Benitez will introduce the new Ceracolor water based encaustic paints. The workshop will allow ample time to learn and explore each of their techniques, with demos and discussions. This workshop is appropriate for those new to Encaustic, as well as those with more experience. |
