Taking as a point of departure the Metaphysical works of De Chirico, Benítez has, as a kind of art historical archaeologist, drawn connections between the architectures and concerns of the remote past, to the existential angst of modern culture and civilization. As in many sites in the world where the remote past reveals itself in its ruins, one frequently sees cohabiting with them, the markers of the post-industrial revolution which unflinchingly and metaphorically look toward the future in their relentless march towards « progress ».
